Curtin Open Day

Curtin Open Day | Rizal Farok

Curtin Open Day yesterday. my first in .. 25 years. the festival vibes, and being able to share my stories and experiences, was totally my jam. but it felt a little different than my usual though, since i'm usually about graduating students to the workforce.

it was still good nonetheless. i ended up speaking to more parents than the kids, though i was initially worried if my usual advice would sit well with them - especially on how these days my advice is to have some work experience first before entering Uni (or concurrently), to really know if you want to be in a certain industry.

surprisingly most agreed with me, and they all appreciated my candour. and .. especially when i said i hire people for their soft skills and character, and ALL the parents were like "see, i told you kids. now you hear it from the industry guy. so you need to start to listen to us at home!"

(i grinned so wide at that)

i did meet a pair of smart cookies into software coding. so i dumped all advice i could think of then - like the what to learn, how to know what to learn, what to excel in, how to uhm cheat and navigate uni, etc.

oh, and yes. D1 did drop by, and we managed to catch up.

anyways. always good to see familiar faces from the Curtin University Alumni office and volunteers. this time, i got to meet and be introduced to Amy Barrett (and Alaine) but uhm .. it feels like i'm collecting a new Pokemon at every new session i attend. maybe, err, i should just drop by the office some day and just say hi to everyone <grins>
