another session at Curtin School of Nursing with their Master of Nursing Practice students. today's scenario was of me (playing the same patient as the other day) being collected from the shower, after a succesful op, into my room, to be prepared for discharge.
i knew how to play along, but .. i wasn't sharp enough i think, in coming up with enough varied questions to pose to the students. but overall, as a first timer, i think i went ok.
i also commented they should never forget the "human chats" when communicating with patients (vs the "technical chats"). not sure if that is part of their assessment, but as a patient, i'm sure we all want to feel comfortable and at ease too.
the other thing i should mention - the other patients from both sessions i did. like .. i was the youngest but i feel as "old" as them. you know, forgetting names, when i need/don't need my glasses, etc. <grins>
so yeah. first time doing this. quite enjoyed it. and wouldn't mind doing more of these. though, i could definitely learn more from the other patients who are like veterans in these scenarios!
