Neurodiversity in the Community event last night, discussing building communities where neurodivergent people can thrive .. made possible by All Minds Belong and 100 St Georges Terrace. we had a great diverse panel, and the attendee turn out was really good too.
i'll let you read what others have posted (or will soon) for more details. but the one thing that i took away from last night .. was the realisation of the impact, answers to a question that i initially thought was so-so, could have.
as everyone was answering their bit (to that question), i'm like "hang on, that's a great question". it was about having the panel share their wins from the past year .. which i slowly felt is really important cos it could be that beacon of hope for others in the community who may be struggling*
anyways. i have to admit i wasn't at my 100% level last night (reasons). i started at the reception which, as most would know, is something i can easily operate on muscle memory .. hence able to do the usual without appearing too out of the game (well, hopefully).
and even during the panel, i was at the back fidgeting away and pacing the floor with my "tightrope routine".
but after the panel, i slowly warmed up a bit more to about 80%. mainly because of the crowd .. having like minded people around you is always good. i met and spoke to new faces, and people i've only met online (or through the phone) in person for the first time.
of course. the familiar faces helped, which is always the ultimate comfort (and who kept me from dropping below 50% at the start of the night).
just to be clear though, i did have a good night. and most importantly .. holy fluffing sheet Eleanor knows Pale Waves! i mean, i hardly get anyone in Perth to recognise my tee (like, i remember how small the crowd was at their gig few years ago) but it felt really good to have someone else know it!
and of course .. i also met Amanda for the first time. i like her outfit, and her style. and we were like a matching pair. spoke to her for quite a bit after the panel session.
as always, huge thank you to Emily cos she really is the great connector who put most of us in the community, together.
love to all.
